Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Join us as a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to design and deploy scalable, secure infrastructure for Nextdata OS across multi-cloud environments. Lead CI/CD automation, optimize deployments, and drive the future of decentralized data with cutting-edge Kubernetes-native technologies.

The company

The future of data lies in decentralization, and the concept of a data mesh is the proven approach for implementing this at Enterprise scale. We’re here to make it a reality. Nextdata OS is a data-mesh-native platform built to meet the challenge of decentralizing data at scale. We are inventing a new way for developers to work with data and share it responsibly via data product containers.

Our vision is to build a world where AI/ML and analytics are powered by decentralized, responsible, and equitable data ownership, across boundaries of organizations, technology, and most importantly boundaries of trust.

Our purpose is to change the experience of creating, sharing, discovering, and using data forever, to be connected, fast, and fair based on data mesh principles.

Our technology is designed to empower data developers, users and owners with a delightful experience where data products are a first-class primitive, with trust built-in.

We are here to accept the reality that the world of data is complex and messy; data models are out-of-date the moment they are created; data is owned across trust boundaries; data is stored on different platforms; data is used in many different modes and most importantly data can't protect itself. We recognize that past approaches to tackle these complexities with centralized data collection, modeling and governance are ineffective at best and pathologically unfair at worst. Our mission is to reimagine the world of data with you.

The role

As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead the design and automation of how Nextdata OS is provisioned and operated across environments—primarily managed Kubernetes, often in customer-owned cloud accounts.

You will work on systems that directly shape how data mesh is adopted in practice.

You will bring experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, including data and ML infrastructure, to help deliver a secure, self-service platform for data product teams.

You will:

  • Design and implement deployment models for PaaS, SaaS, and customer-managed environments
  • Build scalable, modular infrastructure-as-code and maintain high code quality through reviews
  • Work closely with customers to understand real-world constraints and requirements
  • Collaborate with product and engineering to evolve the platform
  • Take ownership of what you ship, including production reliability

You Are The Right Fit If You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering
  • Experience and willingness to work directly with customers
  • Experience working in early-stage or growing startups, shaping infrastructure from the ground up
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes-based systems and multi-cloud environments
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD systems for cloud-native applications
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating PaaS and SaaS platforms at scale
  • Experience with data and ML ecosystems across platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • A track record of managing infrastructure cost and performance trade-offs
  • Experience contributing to or leading security reviews and audits
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a focus on reliability

Technical depth in:

  • Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS) and containerization (Docker)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure VNet, GCP VPC)
  • Observability tools (Prometheus, ELK or similar)
  • Service meshes (Istio, Linkerd)
  • Cloud security practices

Our benefits

We are an early-stage company, but we operate like a mature team. Many of us have families, and we value stability.

We offer:

  • $2,000 home office setup budget
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage for you and your family
  • Competitive salary and meaningful early-stage equity
